Berivan Tamsen is a former math teacher and coach from New York City who brings extensive experience working with elementary and middle schoolers across various charter management organizations. Her journey as a math coach began during the summers where she facilitated learning and development plans for graduate students pursuing their master’s in teaching. As her career evolved, she exercised influential leadership to establish a cross-school partnership between her current workplace and a previous charter organization. The outcome of this collaboration was increased access to High-Quality Instructional Materials and Data Informed Decision Making protocols for all students.

After taking a brief break to pursue her Master in Public Administration at SIPA, Columbia University, Berivan rejoined the education sector as an Improvement Specialist at Ed Direction. Beyond her professional pursuits, Berivan is a first-generation American who draws inspiration from her father’s marginalized Kurdish background – fueling her dedication to promoting equitable access to quality public education.

In her free time, Berivan is actively involved in volunteering with her Braver Angels community, where she serves as the New York State Co-coordinator. Braver Angels is an organization committed to bridging the partisan divide and strengthening our democratic republic. Berivan’s varied experiences and interests underscore her role as a passionate advocate for education and civic engagement.
