Eric Shaw is an Improvement Specialist at Ed Direction. Eric is currently working on the Texas Data Fellows Team to promote data literacy throughout districts in Texas. He works directly with data fellows to improve their ability to implement data-driven decision-making in their districts. His responsibilities include implementing professional learning plans and creating training materials to showcase real-world applications of data visualization in Tableau. He is a servant leader who believes in supporting educators to make values-driven, data-informed choices to improve student outcomes.

Education & Career Highlights

Before joining Ed Direction, Eric worked in education in several different roles. He started by teaching directly with students, first as a Playworks coach at a public charter school, then in an afterschool program as a one-on-one aid for students with learning disabilities. Later, he advocated for afterschool and summer learning programs in Massachusetts and helped secure a historic increase in state funding for such programs. In his most recent role, he worked as an analyst, partnering with high school leaders in Philadelphia, PA, to support their efforts in creating and applying school improvement plans. He believes that leaders implementing consistent, data-informed practices that center student experiences can accomplish incredible outcomes.

Eric obtained his bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from Tufts University. Later, he pursued a master’s degree in Education Policy and Management at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. His career accomplishments include supporting Philadelphia High Schools as they moved out of CSI designation and writing a summative legislative report on Afterschool and Out-of-School Time in Massachusetts.
